Our participants’ art work was exhibited in Trondheim Kunstmuseum (TKM), Norway following Peacepainting workshops in Trondheim, Norway.

The participants had created the paintings during workshops we held during the yearly festival in Trondheim, St. Olav Festival.

Using art and culture, this festival aims to widen the horizons and expand people’s world of imagination. It is a values-based meeting place that embraces, rather than excludes, all religions as well as non-religious people.

During our workshops, a theme was therefore equality and inclusion across religions and personal beliefs.

One of our participants held a speech during the opening of the exhibition:

[…] Before I didn’t use to paint so much, so this is quite new to me. In the past, when I was home, I used to paint with small and thin brushes. But when I came to Peacepainting, painting became something completely new to me. When I am painting, I feel like I am talking to someone else. In a way, it is my own language. […]

When I saw the others painting, I was thinking: ”Oh, so great paintings!” And then I got the feeling, the feeling that made me happy. Then I thought, painting can really cheer me up when I am feeling bad.

To me, painting is a way of learning and a way of expressing my emotions. […]
