What is Peacepainting?
We are a Norwegian non-profit organization that uses art to work for equality.
Equality
We believe everybody has a good place inside, and that when we look at each other with real respect, this place will grow.
We create intuitive painting workshops for people to express themselves via painting and poetry.
We raise awareness by exhibiting the paintings w/poems in places where they can influence adults, especially decision makers.
“Peacepainting contributes to both activating children through creative activities and to spreading a positive, constructive and strong message in society.”
- DR. HENRIK SYSE, SENIOR SCIENTIST, PRIO (DEPARTMENT OF PEACE RESEARCH)
How do we work?
Via free painting workshops and exhibitions, we lift people’s voices up and show that they are worth being listened to. There are no prerequisites to participate.
We give a voice to people from all walks of life, including important minorities, refugees and immigrants (e.g. North Korean school children, Sámi minorities, Syrian refugees).
Paintings with their accompanying poems are exhibited in airports, cafés, political arenas such as ministries, UN venues, Prime Minister offices.
Why Peacepainting?
As a generation, it is our responsibility to leave the world in a
better condition.
Art as a highly effective tool
Owing to its high efficacy, art is one of the oldest forms of human expression. Expressing oneself via e.g. paintings and poems enables one to convey a lot between the lines and can therefore be highly effective. That is why we are using art as a tool to work for equality. Read more about why this method works here.
Peacepainting not only strengthens and benefits the individual’s creative development and sense of self worth, but also the local and global community.
We are working to create a world where every human being can be born with equal opportunities, and flourish in society with their unique abilities and characteristics.
We are actively working to raise awareness about equality.
“All of us who work in the management building at Akershus Fortress highly appreciate the Peacepainting exhibition at our workplace. The children have important messages through their paintings. I hope others can have the pleasure of having the paintings after us.”
- GRETE FAREMO, FORMER NORWEGIAN MINSTER OF DEFENSE
