Sponsored by The Norwegian Barents Secretariat, Coordinated by Elena Nikitina
In cooperation with an agricultural high school in Naryan-Mar, Russia, we created a project at an agricultural high school in Naryan-Mar, Russia. Naryan-Mar was Peacepainting’s second contact place in Russia, and we created a wonderful project together.
Naryan-Mar is a small city i Russland above the Arctic Circle with 21,658 inhabitants. Many of the inhabitants in Naryan-Mar and the surrounding Nenets region many belong to the indigenous groups Nenets and Komi peoples, who share many similarities with Sámi indigenous groups in Norway, Sweden, Finland and Russia.
An important part of Peacepainting’s work is to lift and strengthen minorities, as well as creating bonds across borders. We therefore brought 6 youths, 1 child and 2 adults from Norway to facilitate cultural exchanges and held workshops together with these and students from the agricultural high school in Naryan-Mar.
We also brought paintings from Norway, Sri Lanka and Tunisia to be exhibited at the agricultural high school in Naryan-Mar.
Some of the paintings created
The paintings created by the students in Naryan-Mar have later been exhibited at various public places in Norway, including many city halls and Brønnøysund Airport in the region of Helgeland, Norway.
