On the 24th of November, Peacepainting was invited to Leka Municipality in connection with the Peacepainting workshops we held previously at Leka Skole. During the meeting, Catrine Gangstø presented the method and our plans for Peacepainting Center. The center will be located in Northern Norway, and locally in the same area as Trollfjell Geopark, which is an exceptional geological heritage of international significance in Leka Municipality, recognized as a UNESCO Global Geopark in 2019. Based in Leka, the Geopark is also a cooperative project between the municipal boroughs of Brønnøy, Vega, Vevelstad, Sømna, Bindal and Leka.
About Leka
Leka is a municipality in Norway which has a very unique geology, and is Norway's Geological National Monument. The red serpentine mountains and the special geology make the island one of Norway's most beautiful and special. The municipality only has 600 inhabitants, making it one of Norway’s smallest municipalities.
In collaboration with employees at Leka Municipality, we are in the process of assembling a very nice exhibition of paintings with texts made by middle school pupils at Leka Skole. A good idea from employees at Leka City Hall, was to invite the students to the town hall and make a nice opening ceremony. The paintings will be exhibited in the town hall for an indefinite time.
We wish to express our gratitude for the nice hospitality we experienced in Leka municipality.
