Sponsored by Nordland County Council.
In cooperation with Nordlense, which produces tents in Vesterålen, we created a tent to be used in refugee camps.
Inside the refugee camps, our Peacepainting Tent is a space to create life, solidarity and hope for a better future. It is a room where children in conflict situations get a voice, are heard and can have their message conveyed to places where adults with decision-making power travel.
The tent has an outer surface covered with solidarity messages for those who are so unlucky to end up in refugee camps. These solidarity messages are paintings (with texts) made by children who want to put an end to the situations that force people to flee their homes.

In the Peacepainting tent, the refugees are given the opportunity to contribute to making a difference in the world. This provides hope and encouragement in their unfortunate situation. Moreover, research shows that the painting activity can have powerful therapeutic effects on each individual.
Peacepainting also raised the tent outside the Norwegian Parliament. We had workshops inside the tent with an introductory class/”innføringsklasse” from Bolteløkka school. This is a class of children who have recently moved to Oslo and attend an introductory class in preparation for the Norwegian school.
