On the "Stoppested i Verden" festival for children 6th of April in Hamar, Norway, Peacepainting was invited to have workshops.
What is the Stoppested i Verden Festival about?
Stoppested Verden is an annual intercultural festival with the purpose to prevent alienation, racism and discrimination by creating meeting places through art and cultural activities with room for everyone.
Stoppested Verden has more than 15 years' experience as a bridge-builder between public administration and an actively participating community life. The annual festival school with participants from three municipalities is an example of how Stoppested Verden also initiates inter-municipal cooperation.
Peacepainting at Stoppested i Verden
Peacepainting’s objectives align perfectly with the Stoppested i Verden festival’s goal, and it was the first time that we participated in this festival. For this event, we used the Peacepainting tent and Peacepainting Instructors were Kaja Beyer, Benedicte Christine Røren and Catrine Gangstø.
We had drop-in workshops the whole day, and the inspiration sessions were held outside in the beautiful weather. The workshops took place continuously outside the tent and the exhibition was set up inside the tent and was growing throughout the day. Everyone who wanted to see the exhibition had to take off their shoes, so it was nice and clean inside the tent and a very nice atmosphere. Parents and children enjoyed themselves and we received a lot of great feedback. Most of the children came and collected their painting before leaving the festival, after the painting had dried well inside the tent.
We are in contact with Hamar municipality regarding a subsequent exhibition of some of the paintings with the accompanying poems, and we are looking forward to hopefully participating again for many years to come!
