A Collaboration with Nord University, Nesna Campus, Norway
On September 12th, we conducted a painting workshop for Master's students in Primary School Education at Nesna Campus, Nord University. This workshop marks the start of a collaboration between Peacepainting and Nesna Campus, focusing on innovative techniques to teach equality and human rights principles within Norwegian educational settings.
The participants, who are future primary school teachers in Norway, found this method highly engaging, as it provided them with an introduction to Peacepainting's approach while allowing them to experience its impact firsthand.
Nesna's Rich History of Teacher Education
Nesna is located on the northern coastlines of Norway and has played an important role in Norway's educational history. The Nesna Teacher's College, established in the late 19th century, has been instrumental in shaping teacher training in Norway. Over the years, the college has trained numerous educators, contributing significantly to the development of pedagogical standards and practices in Norway. While the institution has seen various changes, its impact on Norway's
educational landscape is undeniable.
Apart from its academic relevance, Nesna is also known for its natural landscapes and local cultural elements. It that has a beautiful coastline with many small islands and a backdrop of majestic mountains. Historically, it was as a vital trading post, with its harbor facilitating commerce and communication between Northern Norway and the southern regions. Additionally, there are many local stories about the famous Seven Sisters mountain range that can be seen from the main village in Nesna.
