On December 16th, the contract between Bodø2024 and Peacepainting was formally signed. Catrine Gangstø received a beautiful welcome in the foyer of Bodø City Hall as she came for the meeting with the management at Bodø2024. Although our collaboration started at the beginning of 2021, the formal signing of the contract between Bodø2024 and Peacepainting took place on December 16th 2021.
About Bodø2024
In 2019 it was announced that the city of Bodø in Norway was nominated as the European Capital of Culture 2024 by the European Commission. With a campaign that emphasized its Arctic location, Bodø won the competition to become a European Capital of Culture 2024. It is the first time ever that this title is awarded to a city north of the Arctic Circle, and it will help build a new bridge between Northern Norway and Europe, based on cultural cooperation. This will put culture, richness and diversity at the heart of Bodø, and with EU support a series of events will be organized to create a yearlong festival of art and culture.
About Nordic Peacepainting 2024
In close partnership with Bodø2024, Peacepainting will develop and establish a series of workshops, exhibitions and training courses in a project named Nordic Peacepainting 2024.
Using the Peacepainting method in painting workshops, participants will learn how intuitive painting can give rise to an inner sense of harmony, balance and equality
Teachers will receive trainings and learn to use art as a tool for integration, not only between nordic countries but also internationally,
Exhibitions will enrich, inform and raise awareness on the topic of equality and create a union between people across borders
Nordic Peacepainting 2024 aims to promote equality, and improve integration across borders, with heightened collaboration between nordic countries, as well as inclusion of people with special needs and an immigration background. Part of the culture in Northern Norway and the Nordic countries is that settlements are remote and far in between. Therefore we will also engage less central societies, not just the cities. The project will will culminate with exhibitions of paintings from all the events during Bodø2024.
The Cooperation Agreement between Bodø2024 and Peacepainting
Peacepainting is engaged by Bodø2024 to be responsible for the planning and implementation of the Nordic Peacepainting 2024 project that we outlined at the beginning of 2021. For the whole duration of the project, Peacepainting will be responsible for planning, carrying out and evaluating the project. Nordic Peacepainting 2024 formally began 1.5 2021 and ends 31 December 2022, but might be extended to include 2023.
