Peacepainting Workshop Uniting Beyond Politics

Last weekend we hosted a special painting workshop in Tromsø, Norway, bringing together young politicians from various political parties. The purpose of this workshop was to emphasize dialogue and equality, with a shared commitment to making a positive impact on society, irrespective of political affiliations.

Our painting workshops are inclusive, welcoming participants of all ages and artistic backgrounds. This universal approach consistently yields remarkable results.

During the workshop, participants quickly grasped the concept, dedicating themselves to their individual paintings while occasionally taking time to observe and exchange viewpoints on each other’s creations.

One participant, Regine Røvik of the Arbeiderpartiet, described the atmosphere, saying, “I think this is the first time it has been so quiet in a room with so many politicians in one place.”

John-Egil Magga, Venstre, painted "Natural Diversity” with the text accompanying his painting:

“In the Sami culture, red, green, yellow, and blue are the primary colors. One should not be afraid to focus on people's differences; instead, one should celebrate them. I also thought about nature while painting”.

He commented; "During the painting workshop, we discussed that this is probably the most unique experience we've had as politicians. When there are many politicians in one room, there is usually a lot of noise as everyone tries to find a consensus. With this, you end up doing what feels right, not just what is established as the truth”.

The paintings created will be exhibited at Tromsø City Hall. Stay tuned for more!
